Why we built it this way

Protect your child from online harms, or protect their private information?

Keeping a child safe online has usually meant collecting personal data — asking them how old they are, then watching them to make sure they don’t go places they shouldn’t be or see things they shouldn’t see.

Other platforms start by telling you that collecting your child’s personal information is an unfortunate necessity. We started by asking a different question.

Why does anyone need to know how old a child is to determine whether a picture is pornography, whether a text has curse words, or whether a message is asking someone to do something inappropriate?

When you focus on the interaction, protecting a child online becomes much simpler. It does not require collecting a child’s private data and sending it to a third party in the cloud.

RoseShield began as a father’s commitment to protecting his own daughter. Named inventor on patents spanning AI ethics and child-safety architecture.

Steaphen Antony Venansious

Co-Founder & Chief Technology Officer

Technology entrepreneur and data scientist. Architect of the Algorethics AI Library, which engineered the Rome Call for AI Ethics into working production systems, and builder of the engine this site describes. Formerly CTO of AWOK.com in Dubai through its $30M Series A, and built the rights-protection systems used on Bollywood and Hollywood productions.

Melissa A. Ehlers

Chief Growth Officer

Marine Corps veteran and former Judge Advocate, with thirty years across national security, compliance and governance. Ran a multi-unit franchise group as chief executive for twenty-two years with full profit and loss ownership. Leads growth across partnerships and channel, and brings deep experience of regulated markets and federal engagement.

Chief Operating Officer & General Counsel

Attorney, Marine Corps veteran and former Judge Advocate, with thirty years across national security and corporate governance. Senior legal officer for a joint Defense and State Department organization supporting embassy operations worldwide, and Divisional General Counsel at Bassett Furniture Industries. Sits on the board of the SAFE Governance Council, the emerging international standard for AI-mediated safeguarding.

Global online harms consultant with decades in child sexual exploitation and abuse. Worked across UK Government agencies fighting organized crime and child sexual crime, then three years at Twitter, latterly as Head of Online Child Safety. Advises governments, platforms and charities, and speaks regularly at international online-safety conferences.
